We are FIRST robotics Team 1566, the Ammoknights.
FIRST is a worldwide robotics program that encourages kids and teens to reach their full potential in STEM by issuing robotics challenges and running competitions annually.
Our team was the first in Idaho, and is the oldest team in the state. It was started in 2005 by Curtis Thomas and Richard Anderson at Hillcrest High school. The AmmoKnights foundation laid by the dedicated mentors allowed FIRST Team 1566 to become an instrumental part in the development of robotics throughout the Idaho Falls community, spreading the FIRST message and helping to teach others about robotics.
It has since become a community team that parents have kept alive through volunteering time and talents. We currently partner with The Community Youth Action Center where we serve high-school-aged youth from all around the Idaho Falls area.
Each year we work together to build a robot based on that year's specific FRC challenge---revealed at the kick-off each January.
We take our robot to compete in the Idaho Regionals in Boise each year, with FIRST teams from the U.S. and other countries, with the potential to rank high enough to go to Worlds!
